Have you ever been camping?
In my younger years, I was fortunate enough to attend a church camp plus went camping in a tent, trailer and motor home.
In my preteen years, my parents made me and my sister attend camp but not our brothers. We were living in the Detroit suburbs and were attending a huge church where the opportunity came about. All the campers were from metro Detroit and the camp was in northern Michigan on a huge inland lake not far from I-75. We attended roughly four years but didn’t make significant changes in our lives. Although, our kind maintenance man married our front desk/camp store manager so something good came from it.
During the same time living on the island, we’d sleep out in a tent in our backyard backed up to protected forest land. Later on, my family rented a pop up trailer to camp in Kentucky. Then, we rented a motor home that caused more problems than it was worth in Canada. On my honeymoon, we camped outside of Gatlinburg TN in the Smoky Mountains while visiting Nashville and Rocky Top.
My idea of camping now is staying in a business friendly hotel that offers free breakfast, Happy Hour, gym and easy access to the interstate to get to nearby airports. I fly Tuesday through Friday when it’s mainly more business than pleasure.
Below is one of my favorite pictures taken from an airplane leaving HPN (Westchester County AirPort) to CLT (Charlotte Douglas Airport).
