Besides watching the many cartoons, my parents wanted us to value the art of music. Growing up in metro Detroit, Motown Records was growing and finding talent within blocks of the their studios.
Every Saturday, me and my siblings watched, “Dick Clark’s American Bandstand,” and “Don Cornelius’s Soul Train” which I remember as a little girl singing and dancing to the music of both shows. Each show helped shaped our culture of music and fashion.
Remember some artists like Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and others who were featured on both shows which expanded both of their fan bases. To this day, I love listening to the original artists of Motown Records before they left Detroit and moved to Los Angeles.
Grateful for the music of my childhood and of the memories created. Priceless.
Thank you,
Leslie Elizabeth David.
