Workload

Workload. Interesting topic. The amount of work that is reasonable to accomplish in the time given to do the tasks at or above expectations by those who delegate it.

Today, my workload was reminded to me by a coworker who spends most of her time socializing and talking about her ex husband than working. She tells me that she did “way more” than me when she had my job. Then, why hire me? Truthfully. This person trained me for all of my tasks. I started only answering the phone then I got the outgoing mail process when they realized that my output far exceeded hers. Then, I got mail drop off and scanning. In the meantime, she has become more social. Truthfully, I am tired about hearing about her ex husband most of the day. She got upset when she lost the Mail Drop off duty because she would socialize while she was at the post office on company time. Unfortunately for her, there are others who are in the same position as her who have outputs that far exceeds hers.

Daily, I show up early unpaid 30 minutes just to have my outgoing mail process done at a reasonable time without socializing so that I can do other assigned tasks.

To add to the drama, every couple of years, she states that something is “wrong” with her so she spends lots of time off at a general medicine physician’s office and even specialists. With all the time off of work and using up her insurance, the medical professionals have never found anything. My Dad was a physician which I did work in his office a few times and read many medical publications at home plus the discussion of health was a normal dinner time discussion. I may have mentioned when it first started about her health that my Dad was a doctor but I was quickly shut down.

Wednesday, my work load will be reviewed in conjunction with the amount of time socializing by my coworkers which I’m truthfully not expecting change. Believe to some degree, those with a strong work ethic are always getting more work.

Would love reading your perspective on this. Please share.

Thank you,
