Sunday

With the metroplex basically shut down today and schools plus some businesses closed tomorrow, I’m changing my plans accordingly.

Likely, job hunt tomorrow with some house cleaning. Then, Tuesday, go visit a workforce office to apply for jobs that they have exclusively. Being 64 years old, I understand that social security and what little pension I have. Feel I am capable and I desire to work.

Humbly, God has a plan for you and one for me. HE knows my situation and knows the future. I have Faith that I will get to where I need to be. Those faint whispers lately are no joke.

Not as stressed as I was back in 2011 when I was terminated from employment after 21 years. Impossible to find work so I moved to Texas in 2013 where demand beat ageism. Not the case now.

On another topic, I’ve been unable to contact my friend who lives in west Michigan today. No response from communication attempts. She was going out last night to meet friends. Concerned, yes. Worried that something is wrong, yes.

Lazy Sunday,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Time to Chill

What do you enjoy doing most in your leisure time?

For the past 18 months, my time out of my primary employment and commute has been spent writing that I love and working to sell on my online closet, in addition, to taking care of my feline divas that leaves little time for actual leisure.

In Michigan, I would walk around my neighborhood full of bungalows built in the 1930s or ride my 12 speed touring bike on the nearby bike trails. Plus, I volunteered at various charities. In northern Michigan, I would ride my bike through town and to the beaches on Lake Michigan and other places.

Now that I’m unemployed, much of my time has been getting benefits set up, job hunting and was dealing with panic attacks that were happening. They have stopped. After working in an extremely toxic work environment, I’ve been healing after seven years of mental poison.

Believe that I will start walking in my neighborhood once things get settled. Even short drives around the area. Job market seems flat and even more being 64 years old.

From my years of employment, my wise words to you are take the time off, book the flight, get in the car and drive to have the adventure of where you end up. Life is more than work and house chores so get out of the house and live!

Yours Truly,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Saturday

With the temperature at 24 degrees Fahrenheit and cloudy, I believe that it’s a true reflection of my mood and uncertainty of the future. Concerned about finances big time.

With that being stated, I have Faith that it’s His Will for me that He’s not done with me yet and my felines are included in the journey. Something good for us. Something new awaits.

The environment that I was forced out of was toxic. No employee handbook to set boundaries on behavior towards customers, managers, owners and coworkers. No detailed summary of job descriptions either. Nothing in writing regarding benefits or pay. Things happened there that amazed me because of no boundaries.

In retrospect, I had a good perk or luxury of prepping outgoing mail then meter afterwards to the post office. Also, I scanned documents after the prep of mail. Plus, I used to answer almost 90% of incoming calls to the whole business. Then, you add the coworker who felt she had to control me because of her own insecurities. It went on for months of her coming on my property early in the morning to my then unlocked backyard likely to show dominance over me. Never reported her because the owner liked her.

Needed to unload.

Snow Daze

At this time, north Texas has come to a stand still due to weather with frozen heavy sleet on the roads.

This morning, I wanted my weekly McDonalds breakfast binge so I drove out and got it safely and timely. Drove through a stop sign after locking in my brakes.

It does help that, in my immediate area, I’m one of the few that actually parks my car in my garage. Car isn’t cold and doesn’t need to be brushed off.

Texas doesn’t have the equipment to remove snow or to spread salt or sand on roads like Michigan does so everyone is encouraged to stay home. It happens every January for about 10 days of cold and sleet.

Being from Michigan and after living in up north lower peninsula, my experience driving in inclement weather and bad roads including ice and frozen sleet are normal.

Be Safe. Stay Warm.,

The Fort Worth Water Gardens

Name an attraction or town close to home that you still haven’t got around to visiting.

Fort Worth Water Gardens

The Fort Worth Water Gardens are free to experience in downtown Fort Worth Texas. The attraction caught my eye when a luxury automobile dealership was airing things to do in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

The art exhibit is a welcoming art design that invites all of north Texas to come together to cool off from the heat. Amazingly, it’s FREE to explore. FREE.

When I first moved down to Texas, some Michigan friends took me to The Stockyards to visit. Later on, I traveled solo to Houston, Austin, Palo Duro Canyon, Waco, Amarillo, Oklahoma City and St. Charles Louisiana. Yes, I have explored Texas more than most lifeline residents. The only that I haven’t been is San Antonio because I want to bypass Austin to get there but is difficult. And, I’m ready to move back home.

In closing, the Fort Worth Water Gardens seem to be a peaceful place to cool off and get some exercise climbing the stairs while bringing all people together for fun and a bit of exercise.

The Quiet Voice

Have you ever been quiet enough to listen to a quiet voice? Profound short message by a male voice that is powerful and gentle yet humble.

Twice for me in the past 3 months of communication that is current of things that I have been wondering and/or thinking about. My experiences were, “Fix ….” the name of the town that I believe that I will be moving to eventually and the other is “New York Times” which I have just submitted another essay.

It was nothing like the day that I lost my job, though, of not feeling right and just something felt off.

If you’re not hearing or if you’re not feeling, my encouragement for you is to find a quiet place to quiet your mind plus to get the madness of life out of your head. Turn off the TV and/or music so that you can focus on the peacefulness. After my time of it, I became more in tune with hearing that others can’t and seeing more than the human eye can.

Find your peace.

Edit: Asked for prayers regarding this. Hoping for more info.

The $1200 Grocery Card Scam

The commercial starts with an older retired woman who is struggling with food costs. Then, she prays and then discovers the $1200 grocery card on television. She calls and qualifies, of course. Later, she does the,”happy dance.” After she receives it, she’s thanking God in prayer. It all looks legit to viewers on the surface.

To me, my first thought was, “what’s the catch?” The catch is trading sensitive information to scammers who will drain the bank accounts of those who are on a fixed income primarily Social Security payments. Those who fall for it put themselves in danger.

My encouragement to you is to check on your elderly family members and neighbors and ask them not to respond to this latest scam.

To date, I’m not aware of any investigation into the company but television networks are happy to sell them,”air time,” to promote the scam.

Please be weary of any marketing campaign for seniors including pharmaceutical companies. Investigate yourself and check with your physician, if needed.

Thank you,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

PS. Been getting “Docusign” in my email lately. The email address from the sender was unrecognizable and looked sketchy. Block and delete which I did myself.

Panic Attacks

For the six days, I’ve been waking up and panicking about unemployment and benefits. Yesterday, I took the time to call a representative to sign up for unemployment. My material is coming in the mail. Very informative from a calming man who felt my tension. This morning, I woke up with one again and reminded myself that things are going in the right direction.

Today, I have decided to rest. To recover from losing a job that, truthfully, I hated but grateful that it paid the bills and then some. Lots of stress in a toxic environment. Never felt like I belonged. Believe, in the long run. I’ll be happy maybe even thankful for the separation.

Next week, Monday, I will be ready to go to Workforce Solutions to job search and apply. Then, go to the library to up load my information to unemployment.

Truthfully, I’ll reread this as my reminder this weekend.

Thank you,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

My Fun Five for Friday

List five things you do for fun.

On this Friday, I’m thinking about fun things to do to relieve the stress of unemployment.

My fun five aren’t necessarily for the Texas environment but for colder climates especially in the summer months.

  1. Biking. Road bike on paved trails. Have an older Raleigh Technium 12 speed touring bike.
  2. Walking. Best therapy to get out in the fresh air and walk away the stress. Inexpensive and easy.
  3. Traveling by plane or by automobile or both. Learned to love flying and always into a great road trip no matter the distance.
  4. Downhill skiing. Used to race the gates in high school in northern Michigan and did train with an Olympian. Major stress reliever.
  5. Reading Facebook posts from friends whom I’ve known most since kindergarten in the metro Detroit area. Being 64 years old, I am blessed to have met them and to have them in my life still. Technology of bringing friends together to support and to laugh together is awesome.

With that, Happy FriYay!

The Ageist Society

Japan cherish the older persons who are considered valuable to their communities and families for their wisdom and experience.

The United States is notorious for advertising and promoting to the younger generations due to their intelligence with technology plus more time to spend income of various products. Leaving out those who are older and wiser generally except for products designed for the mature person.

The ageist society on whole neglects to see the value of the mature adult who has gained wisdom and experience from personal relationships, money and finance, work, education, travel, cooking and baking plus anything that matters. The negative result is that mistakes are being made which from gaining wisdom to be used with intelligence problems would be diverted.

The young are pretty and gorgeous but the mature are beautiful. Look at the covers to magazines to see both extremes.

Finally, the ageist society looks generally at the older community as a whole presumptively dumb and stupid as witnessed individually in both social and professional situations when, in fact, it’s not true. When the younger generations do become “older” than they will realize the that in society, they feel less valuable.

Leslie Elizabeth David.
