Poshmark

A previous post that I had mentioned is that I had planned to donate down my inventory and shut down my closet but I have changed my mind to keep it open to supplement my unemployment.

Since the New Year, I have been blessed with seven seperate sales with the last one a return customer who bought multiple items tonight.

Slowly, I’ll be moving new items that I purchased for me will be listed to be sold on my online closet to keep my inventory fresh.

If your closet is full and in need room for newer clothes, consider a closet on Poshmark to sell your items. Ambassadors and seasoned closet owners are always happy to help.

Takin’ Care of Business

Today, I chose to understand why I am not allowed to renew my drivers license online than move forward from there. Grateful for my local library computer lab and the kind people who work there.

Upon my quality time on a powerful desktop computer, I learned that my drivers license has a scan error that is preventing me to renew online. My DMV appointment is late April that could cause me to lose job offers because of an expired drivers license.

My next thing I did was to ask for help from decision makers in Texas from LinkedIn and government websites. A valid drivers license will secure a job offer to begin necessary paperwork so I could actually start working.

This past week, a bot from an employment agency contacted me about an old unfilled position that I’m qualified for. I would like to move forward and start instead of explaining my problem.

“Takin’ Care of Business,” by BTO sums up my day of late morning to early afternoon. For a Saturday, time well spent.

Cheers!

A Break from Me

Do you need a break? From what?

Truthfully, I need a break of letting things get to me that normally don’t. Life happens, people do crazy things that are beyond comprehension but their actions or reactions should not dictate my day.

With that mindset, my former supervisor and, “sister from another mister,” would speak wisely and tell me, “don’t let anyone steal your joy.” In other words, don’t let the actions of others take ownership of your mind and heart. Furthermore, we talked about how tiring that it can be and to take time to recharge without the noise.

Admittedly, after losing my job, I have felt peace from the culture that was present at work and, yet, I’m stressed about being on unemployment and the lack of benefits it pays. Reopened my Poshmark closet and have applied to part time work to compensate. Restaurants particularly are being left out.

In addition, Texas like other States have changed their process of drivers license and tag renewals that a citizen renews online if eligible or makes an appointment 2.5 months out. Today, I will check online on a decent desktop computer at the library instead of my iPhone and iPad to see if I can renew there. Or, all else fails, I will explain the situation to the concerned parties and future appointment. From my previous post, I was stressed out from this.

Unfortunately, I cannot separate from myself from me so I’m taking a mental health break this weekend. My peace will be watching British crime dramas, being with my feline babies, napping and going for a walk plus enjoying a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Americone Dream.

Yours Truly,

In Leu

Decided to be upfront about my situation when the time comes if I get the interview as a needed day off. Since I didn’t get my renewal in the mail, I must renew in person.

Fortunately, I do have an appointment that can give proof of it that I must keep.

From my understanding, other States closed local offices to regional offices based on population. Then, still go back to the same place to renew my plates.

My fault for not taking care of this earlier but I would have needed a day off from work to do this.

Texas isn’t the only State that has changed their processing of State ID and driver license. From what I hear, some northern States changed as well.

Friday from …..

Today, I started on a journey not knowing what would happen to renew my Texas driver license and car registration.

Tried making an appointment and rejected it a few days ago thinking positive that I could walk in and take care of it. Went to one location and was told I was at the wrong place but now scheduled to go back in April. Drove around Arlington at their office to see what I had to do. Finally, I made an appointment on April 26th then will finish up my auto later.

A few years ago, I could walk into a local office and get everything done together but no more. Feeling defeated and will effect any job offers.

Decided to apply for jobs unfilled of being advertised for 30 days or more.

Lessons learned.

Calculate the Problem

The most important invention in your lifetime is…

Portable handheld calculator

In 1967, Texas Instruments invented the first handheld calculator that changed how people did math to balance a checkbook, to create a budget and even doing homework.

Nowadays, the portable personal device of the smartphone has a calculator built in but I prefer the separate device to use to handle my financial matters that are charged by a small and inexpensive AA battery.

During my career of primarily working in banks and credit unions, my employers gave me a calculator unit that is plugged in and weighted to handle the numerous math problems. The durability and reliability in business of the instrument saved errors on the teller front line, loans, collections and accounting to determine accurate figures to make sound and solid decisions based on reliable information.

Beyond finances, calculators are used in everyday life of needing a correct number in statistics for sports and business plus the art world.

Calculate it.

My Idyllic Day

Describe your most ideal day from beginning to end.

Now, my peaceful day comes with a sense of peace from beginning to the end. The idea of knowing that not only the present life and the future will be secure financially through reputable employment.

Previously, my idyllic day was sitting on the beach along the shores of Lake Michigan near Grand Haven to reconnect with my soul. Plus, it was riding off my stress on the White Pine Bike Trail through the woods and near the river.

Not so long ago, My “most ideal day” is hopping on a plane out of Texas and flying towards water so that my soul will find peace in central Connecticut like Milford and its surrounding beaches. Like before, the sound of the waves and of the seagulls while sitting in the sand. The warmth of the sun and the light breeze felt against my skin.

Grateful for unemployment but it’s not enough financially in Texas. A job position that opened up at the right time for me. An AI recruiter for a temp agency found me for it that is scary. Have been job hunting for both full and part time for this mature woman who never expected to be in this position. Truthfully, my Faith is being tested. Cherishing those idyllic days of the past and hopeful for the future.

Yours Truly,

Unexpected Blessing

Applied for a teller position at a bank through a staffing agency today without much thought and sent them my resume.

Although, it’s been awhile since I was a teller/member service rep, I remember it well. Plus, the position was supposed to be filled and started one week ago but hasn’t.

Excited for the phone call and will get my unemployment duties done early tomorrow morning.

An answer to prayers.

Note: Keeping my expectations real. Been let down before.

Time in a Bottle

How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?

“Time in a Bottle,” a popular song written and sung by the late great Jim Croce in the 1970s. Worth finding on YouTube if you never listened to it. Lyrics below.

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I’d like to do
Is to save every day
‘Til eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I’d save every day like a treasure and then
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I’ve looked around enough to know
That you’re the one I want to go
Through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I’ve looked around enough to know
That you’re the one I want to go
Through time with

The most important moments in life are those who you love and who have your back that aren’t always family. With my second permanent layoff from a longtime employer and blessed to make it to age 64, one’s viewpoint changes from material success to being around those who are on your team per se. Grateful to live simply with my beautiful felines and my friends who have been there for me.

Thank you,
