Staying in My Own Lane

Daily writing prompt
On what subject(s) are you an authority?

As much as staying in one’s own lane and knowing where you can pass another driver is critical for highway safety.

But, I am taking about workplace relationships which there’s usually an employee manual and/or company culture to pave the way. During my professional career, I believe that following the rules even when there aren’t on personal relationships that start in a workplace environment.

Truthfully, I did fall for a State employee who was auditing my employer who felt the same way as me but because of conflict of interest, we determined that it wasn’t meant to be unless one of us left the industry. It didn’t happen. We stayed in our lane although quite difficult at the time.

Fast forward to 2025. After I loss my job at my employer which he audited, we were in contact for awhile until it was clear that his job was more important at that time. I moved out of State where I thought that I had seen him yet his daughter neither confirmed or denied. My strange feeling was to write him and tell him about my future plans of moving long distance again plus shared about my past which I did shortly after posting this. Wished him love and happiness. Expecting no response so I’ll be staying in my lane. Wished him love and happiness.

My last employer had no culture or policies guiding relationships so they were double standards and conflict when they came about. For example, a supervisor who terminated an employee who was married with was another married employee in the relationship. The employee who refused to end the relationship got fired. Then, the married supervisor got close to a divorced subordinate but nothing happened.

Vacation-All That I Ever Wanted

“Vacation happy to get away” from the popular song from the all girl band, The Go Go’s that was motivating to me to travel.

My parents started me and my siblings traveling at a young age to show us that the world is much bigger than the island where we lived. By the time I was 27 years old, I traveled the majority of Canada, Mexico and most of the US including Hawaii. The Hawaiian islands were the last family trip before I got married.

My most memorable vacation recently was traveling to Connecticut on my second trip there and finding my beach. The water and sand brings an enormous sense of peace to my soul. The location is tucked away and doesn’t show up on any maps. Amazingly, it has a really great food truck there too. Truthfully, I have a beach in Michigan too that I used to go to as well.

Happy Travels!

Unexpected

Today at work, I got an unexpected reaction from a high ranking manager because I didn’t know that one of the owner’s sons had moved out of State. He was irritated that I didn’t know.

Truthfully, I keep to myself and to keep quiet at work. I rarely socialize at work on the clock plus I don’t attend company events. So, I rarely hear anything from anyone either socially and professionally. I chat with my supervisor when needed. Sometimes small talk with a coworker but it’s normally short no long conversations.

My behavior is so that they can’t pin anything on me. Yes, it’s toxic environment. Nothing written down regarding procedures and employment guidelines.

Have you ever experienced a situation like this? What is the worst that you experienced? Interested in reading your story so I can learn what is wisest for me.

Thanks again,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Not An Authority but Informed

Daily writing prompt
On what subject(s) are you an authority?

Truthfully, I don’t consider myself as an authority on much of anything but am informed on a few things.

For example, I have strong intuitive ability which at one time I thought I didn’t. To get it back, I forced myself into a quiet time and removing all the stuff in my mind for hours. It improved immediately. My Mom used to say to me, “you can see things that others can’t.” Maybe born out of survival of being different and being harassed.

Cats. Well informed but not an expert on what they need to feel safe and loved. My two sisters who I have now, Bella and Luna, were both physically and mentally abused before me. Got them when they were 9 months old and they were underweight and flea ridden plus scared of me. It’s been a journey of healing physically and emotionally for them for the past couple of years. They are both doing well now. My previous felines who all came from safe places so transitioning for them was easy.

Travel. Truthfully, growing up I did lots of traveling because my parents wanted me and my siblings to see that the world was bigger than the island which we grew up on. Been to most of the US including Hawaii, most of Canada and Mexico but never overseas that has been a great experience. Now, when I travel, I do extensive homework on the area so, in case, things go sideways, I can recover quickly.

Truthfully, as most do, people are authority of who of they are. I overhear conversations of others who are telling a person what he/she can and can’t handle which makes my skin crawl. Normally, the person who is hearing this is made to feel incompetent as an adult. No matter our age, we are experts on ourselves. We know us best. When I’m told that I can’t do something, my response is “watch me.”

Romantic Fluid not Static

Daily writing prompt
What’s your definition of romantic?

In my teenage years and subsequently afterwards, my definition of being “romantic” was flowers, walks in the park and fine dining much like what the Hallmark Networks promotes thus selling more cards.

As I got older and post divorce, my definition of romantic changed of being with the one who you love drinking coffee or hot tea in the morning and reading the paper. Believe that the simple things can be viewed as romantic as having a conversation about how together you both want to do with the rest of your life.

Truthfully, making time for each other and making each other a priority is romantic for me. Believe that each of us views romantic relationships differently so sharing common ground on it would make things easier. Romance does change over time in long term relationships and ages of those involved.

The Most Delicious Food Ever!

Daily writing prompt
What’s the most delicious thing you’ve ever eaten?

Seriously, impossible to answer because I love so many and different types of food.

The best thing that I ever drank is the Bubbles N Berries served at Whiskey Cake which is a locally sourced restaurant in Texas, Oklahoma and Florida. Strongly recommend and yes, it’s a girly drink.

Most delicious is that I ever ate is truly difficult to pick one. Besides my Grandma’s Hungarian cooking which was over the top, I will choose the BBQ Sundae at The Patriotic Pig in the DFW metroplex because of a huge baked potato smothered with bbq sauce and meat, Mexican corn with beef and sausage.

Hungry yet? You’re welcome.

Me and Mrs. Jones

Daily writing prompt
What makes a teacher great?

Quick preface. My arrival to this world came much earlier than anticipated to my parents and to my pediatrician. Arrived 12/21 but was supposed to be born between 01/31-2/07. My lifetime expectancy was about 10 years old back in the 1960s.

With that being said, my life expectancy was short so I made it to 3rd grade as one of the shortest and smallest students in the whole school was a milestone. Fortunately, I had the privilege of having Mrs. Jones as my teacher who understood my situation medically and educationally. To catch up to my peers, she put me into one on one teaching plus speech therapy plus she realized that I needed glasses to see as well. She approached the principal and school board to help me get what I needed to be mainstreamed into society. Plus, she made sure that I wasn’t put in a home with others who have mental problems due to some physical problems.

Fast forward: The groundwork she set for my future allowed me to get my undergraduate degree in business then later my MBA degree plus a Six Sigma Greenbelt certification. Also, I’ve been married and divorced plus a homeowner twice. All of this is because of her of teaching me how to learn and how to succeed.

Truthfully, I believe that Mrs. Jones was an Angel sent from above. If she didn’t become my third grade teacher, I am not sure where I would have ended up. She was great because she didn’t accept the status quo and pushed the school district with my parents support to make sure I got a proper education.

Thank you Mrs. Jones with love and respect.

The Future

Daily writing prompt
What are you most worried about for the future?

Am I worried? No. The reason is that I don’t know the future so I can only live fully today and by doing what is right and doing the best that I can with hopefully some love and laughter mixed in. Plan for the short term and set goals for the future.

Life is too short to worry.

Thanks Again,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Gratitude

Daily writing prompt
How do you express your gratitude?

Gratitude is expressed normally by saying, “thank you,” promptly although depending on the circumstances, my expression of gratitude might be a gift card or taking the person out for dinner.

Although, I believe that it’s not good to have regrets for not saying it earlier so in my forties, I decided to thank all the people who helped me when I was much younger. Being born premie, I had some complications back then which fortunately I grew out of by my late teens.
Thanking those who helped me, they knew that I never forgot them plus an opportunity to catch up with each other.

Thank you,

Leslie Elizabeth David.
