Keeping My Peace

Daily writing prompt
What brings you peace?

This prompt is asking us of what brings us peace comes at an unusual time. So, if someone must find something that “brings”it then it’s presumed that it “leaves” one constantly.

My stresses are coming from having to board my feline divas for a few days while I am flying on an airline that has been in the news lately. Plus, leaving an empty house.

The peace is that my fur babies are staying in a good place where my previous cat stayed there and did well. Plus, the police did arrest a pilot recently from the airlines. Then, add in daily stress from work which one aspect has been dealt with.

Peace is a resolution of problems from making the best decisions with the best information. To me, it also helps to get enough sleep and eat a healthy diet and prayer. An added bonus, one of my neighbors who works for the local police department and has cameras at their house.

My hope for you is that you find your peace and find a way to keep it despite the circumstances of life.

Yours Truly,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Being Called

Daily writing prompt
What profession do you admire most and why?

The most admirable positions are the one that most people who do them heard the, “calling,” to pursue their career.

Those who have heard the “calling” to professions like educators, nurses, physicians, preachers/pastors, airline pilots, policemen, firefighters, and those who serve our country. These are the positions and the people who I admire most. Each one of these positions are challenging in their own ways that we all have read about in the news and heard about it from people who we know.

To say that I admire one over the other would be difficult. My Dad was an osteopathic physician and one of my brothers went into education both were called to go into these positions.

Growing up in the Detroit suburbs, we had neighbors who had 13 kids. Yes, 13 kids with 20 years range from the oldest to the youngest child. The family had their doctor who was listed on their insurance and they also had my Dad who was there for all of them after working 50-60 hours all week to help them out. The father of all these kids would come over practically in tears thanking my Dad for being there. This is my example of a “calling” of work.

The professions that I admire most are those who have people who have heard the calling to fulfill the duties of the job.

Thank you,

My Online Boutique

Daily writing prompt
If you were going to open up a shop, what would you sell?

My online boutique sells clothing and other items from mass produced brands to small businesses. It is an extension of my personal closet and safety cabinet.

Currently and in the past, I have in my closet and have sold flashlights because I am a big believer in safety. Lights go out and if your phone doesn’t have enough charge to last neither will the built in flashlight. In addition, it contains my personal collection of workout DVDs all in very good to excellent condition.

Truthfully, I started only purchasing from other closet owners but decided to start selling which has been successful partly from my clothing retail experience at a large department store and a boutique. My closet from my experience and my personal preferences makes it stand out from others.

My mornings are spent sharing others closets then visiting here before I go to work. When I make a sale, I plan my time to ship and pack timely and safely. It’s a blessing to have more in life than my primary job so I cherish blogging and reading others work here then I share out on the other site.

Thank you,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Tolerance

Daily writing prompt
What is the most important thing to carry with you all the time?

At my job, I’m tested daily on tolerating continuous socializing by my coworkers who are in my department while I consistently work on my tasks.

With the supervisor who is once again taking time off after he literally just back from vacation, my coworkers have been socializing the whole week. Today, I got in trouble because I gave a callback to the original agent although she said that it could go anyone so I was supposed to group message it.

Everyday, I pep myself up for work praying for wisdom and for quietness. Need the money since I’m 63 years old and not ready to retire so I put up with it.

Only can worry about myself and enjoy my time off knowing that they’re stuck doing my work when I’m gone.

Chilling after work,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

The Modern, Mature, Magnificent Woman

Daily writing prompt
What change, big or small, would you like your blog to make in the world?

My blog name is, “The MMMW,” which stands for the, “modern, mature and magnificent woman,” that was created to let the world know that some gray hairs and winkles doesn’t deplete a person’s value to the world but adds to it with wisdom, knowledge and experience.

Ageism is prevalent in opportunities for those who are over the age of 55 in many capacities especially employment which women my age face daily. Although age discrimination is illegal, organizations find a way around it in not hiring people who are over a certain age. This problem is not just about employment opportunities but other areas of life such as volunteering too.

Being the age of 63 years old, divorced no children, MBA and Six Sigma Greenbelt, I have been passed up for opportunities solely based on my age. Worked most of my life in the financial sector of banking and investments. Plus, I was an ACE certified aerobics instructor. Avid downhill skier and biker for most of my life.

Thank you for allowing me to share the purpose of my blog, it means so much to me.

Yours Truly,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Gaslighter

Someone who I thought was my friend has been gaslighting me because the gifts that I have been given aren’t hers.

We met when she moved from New England to the Midwest to find a man to marry which she did, had four children who are now adults, then divorced. She had placed her happiness and goals dependent on someone else. Oddly, she sees herself superior to me because she was once my supervisor because those in charge bypassed me because I share the same birthday as the CEO who I got along well with. Management feared that we would team up against the opposition in meetings.

Decided not to reach out this time because our lives are on different paths plus she, on her own, must find her own purpose in life beyond the domestic goddess who she thinks she is.

From my understanding, we are all created equal with different gifts, skills and abilities to benefit others to make our world a better place to live. In a sense, a purpose driven life. From this, I hope and pray that she finds her way to a meaningful purpose driven life.

Update: Tried reaching out to her without a response. Her son is getting remarried and she’s not which might be the issue. I encouraged her to live life to the fullest until God answers her prayers

Good News. We had a great conversation which I took responsibility for my behavior as she did hers tonight. My past situation at work of acting wisely will help her with a future event. Learned, apologize and encouraged.

Thank you for your time,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Alternatively Normal

Daily writing prompt
Describe your life in an alternate universe.

Being described as a, “free spirit,” most of my life, I believe that my alternative self would fit in with the world.

With that being said, I would have been born under the sign of my original birthday of Aquarius instead of the edge of Sagittarius. My Mom would have gone full term with me and then some thus no complications of a premature birth.

My childhood would have been one of normal development when I would have fit in and be part of the crowd even lead it at times. My Dad likely would have been proud of me because he would think that I reminded me of him at times. My grades would have reflected my ambition as well as my friends.

Forward, I likely would have attended Michigan State University and been an active member of a sorority even leading it. After graduating, likely sales at a tech company on either coast. Marrying the right man, having a few kids and living in the upcoming neighborhood in the suburbs.

Like my sister is now, I would only be kind to those who are like me and not acknowledge others who aren’t.

My relationship with my parents and my siblings would have been of being of similar likeness. My Dad would have showered me with love and attention then my siblings would have followed.

Truthfully, I am grateful and thankful for the life that I have been blessed with. Grateful that I am unlike my parents and my siblings plus many others. An example is that of one of my sister’s classmates who stated to me that my sister who wouldn’t acknowledge him even to say, “Hello,” which I have. She snubbed him. He has a good heart which didn’t matter to her.

During my lifetime, I’ve been through the, “what if’s,” which leads nowhere. Happy that I’m a free spirit who sees and lives life to my liking. Some love it, some put up with it and others like my family detest my personality.

Content in this Universe.

Locally Sourced and Originally Created

Daily writing prompt
What’s the most money you’ve ever spent on a meal? Was it worth it?

In north Texas, there’s no shortage of various dining experiences to enjoy. My favorite locally sources as many items as possible which are listed on the walls inside the restaurant for verification purposes.

My longtime favorite is called Whiskey Cake which is known for their dessert under the same name. Whiskey Cake is also affiliated with Ida Claire and Mexican Sugar which all three deliver on taste and quality.

Normally, I enjoy the cocktail, Bubbles N Berries, with the Deviled Eggs as my appetizer then savor the chicken and cheese melt sandwich then finish off with the dessert of Whiskey Cake. Depending on the season and availability of product, it runs from $45-60 with tip. The beverage is time consuming to make with expensive ingredients.

Truthfully, I have been visiting my favorite place much less although they opened a location closer to my home. I discovered them years ago when I bought my furniture outside of my local area and I drove past it. Made the decision to stop one day which was life changing experience.

Eat well. Live well.

Walmart Rampage

Daily writing prompt
Scour the news for an entirely uninteresting story. Consider how it connects to your life. Write about that.

In northern Michigan yesterday in a town called Traverse City along the coast of Lake Michigan, multiple stabbings took place at the local Walmart store where there’s only one.

Connected to this story because I lived in Traverse City for a year where I attended a junior college that is part of Michigan State University. The school is known for its Maritime Academy and flight training which I dated a former pilot. Plus, I am a Walmart shopper where I live now. It’s called Northwestern Michigan College with onsite dormitories and apartments for students.

The unusual thing is that Michigan has its own brand of supermarkets one is called Meijer which I truly miss and the other is Spartan. Shopped both when I lived there.

Truthfully, I hardly ever walk into a supermarket because I pick up my groceries in the parking lot of the store which I have been doing since Covid at a Walmart Neighborhood Market which are much smaller and more sane than its big brother of the superstores. I refer to it as “junior.”

The way to stay safe is to be aware of the people around you and to be alert of their mood and actions. Trust your intuition, it doesn’t lie.

It saddens me greatly that this happened as half of the victims are critical condition and the others are serious.

Traverse City is located about 255 northwest of Detroit although getting there requires driving along curvy and hilly State highways after getting off the freeway. The area is for the National Cherry Festival to celebrate the harvest with a parade, Queen, and lots of sampling of cherries in food and drinks.

Be Safe and Stay Alert,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Happiness Internal

Daily writing prompt
List 30 things that make you happy.

From my experience of 60 plus years living on this earth, I have discovered that true joy and happiness comes from within no matter what is happening externally and void of any other living being or physical object.

For me, making a list of things may infer that I would not be happy without them implying emotional dependency on people and things. Not true probably for most of us. Grateful for all that I have and who’s in my life but my happiness isn’t dependent upon it.

Seeing a beautiful sunset or sunrise, listening to the sound of the rain and even a child’s laughter are priceless or feeling loved enriches my life but I am not dependent on them for my happiness.

Happiness is a choice.

Leslie Elizabeth David.
