Adventure is My Life

Daily writing prompt
What’s your favorite word?

Adventure is beyond my favorite word because it describes more accurately my life. For me, it comes as a surprise or sometimes well planned lasting a few days or even a few minutes.

Adventure can be trying out a new restaurant or driving a new route to work. After my divorce, my move to my second apartment and my move to home. Sometimes, a quick drive to my favorite beach on Lake Michigan.

What is the real meaning of adventure? Per Dictionary.com.

an exciting or very unusual experience. participation in exciting undertakings or enterprises. the spirit of adventure. a bold, usually risky undertaking; hazardous action of uncertain outcome.

Finally, life is an adventure in itself. Make your time worthwhile.

Last Tango of Halifax

Daily writing prompt
What are you doing this evening?

My latest and greatest addiction after watching all of the Agatha Christie catalog of film which was of, “Piorot,” and, “Miss Marple.” Prior to that, I watched, “Frost,” and others. British vintage crime dramas was my thing for months. Prior, I watched many older American crime stories such as, “Murder, She Wrote,” and others.

After drifting about for some time I found,” Last Tango of Halifax,” which is about when two old high school sweethearts marry in their senior years of life in Halifax. The families accept their relationship and their lives become intertwined with relationship problems of their own.

From a daughter who is married who was involved in homosexual relationship to a son who had a child out of wedlock while in high school then the sister in law having a young lover and who is an independent farmer. The married couple who seem to be normal while their adult children and grandchildren have plenty of issues.

In the States, the weekly drama originally aired through PBS and now Britbox. It lasted for about 5 seasons from my research. Well casted, well written and filmed on location.

Please let me know if I missed any pertinent information regarding the series. Plus, please share your suggestions as well for me to watch.

Thank you for your time,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Taking Advantage of Others

Daily writing prompt
What personality trait in people raises a red flag with you?

Yesterday, I felt like my tire was getting low although not flat plus it seemed like the front end of the vehicle was shaking. My ultra reliable Toyota Corolla was letting me down.

So, I drove down to a local franchise tire loss that isn’t a national brand for help. They “fixed” my tire that wasn’t even flat and quickly diagnosed my front end issue as suspension problems without even putting my car on the lift to confirm nor deny it. They gave me a price and wanted me to setup an appointment.

Fortunately, while I was there, they did confirm that one of my tire sensors was out. Plus, my intuition started kicking in telling them that I would refer to Toyota as what to do. Then, I paid them and left. Decided to drop off a sale to the post office which I decided that I would observe my car’s performance during the trip. The car was reacting to the less than perfect roads of little dips and other imperfections on the highway. Came home to make a 100k mile check up on my vehicle for oil change and censor replacement.

Beyond thankful that my intuition kicked in when it did saving me time and money on unnecessary changes to my car. Not pleased that I allowed myself to trust them to the point where they were going to replace a part that doesn’t need it. Truthfully, they had no problem with “cashing in” on my lack of knowledge during my visit. Believe that behavior, good or bad, comes back to each of us. Someone else in their future will hold them accountable for their actions. Don’t let anyone take advantage of you!

Thanks again,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

The Best Week Ever-Ideally.

Daily writing prompt
Describe your ideal week.

This was more difficult than I thought it would be but after some trusting my intuition, I came up with my “ideal week.”

Honestly, my “ideal week” would be quitting my current employment, selling my home and buying another with no mortgage near a major body of water with beaches.

My feline princesses and I would have the ability to live in a beautiful condo in a reputable association with a garage, a short walking distance to town and bike trails nearby.

My passive income would come from sporadic projects of things that I gravitate to like writing. Plus, I would have a part time job of working in a cafe or clothing store to be around people. Plus, I would volunteer for helping out for nonprofits like the Ronald McDonald House of cleaning or making meals for those who are staying nearby their children who are ill.

My thoughts are that are “ideal weeks” are a look into our heart and soul to live doing what we are passionate about and we are serving others to make this world a better place for us all. With that said, may your “ideal week” turns into your beautiful reality.

In truth of heart and soul,

The Detroit Lions

Daily writing prompt
Name the professional athletes you respect the most and why.

Being born and raised in Detroit, I respect all of the professional athletes that represent my hometown.

In 2024, the Tigers, Lions, Pistons and Red Wings all made it to playoffs beyond the regular season.

For myself, the Detroit Lions are probably the most improved team in the City and probably in the NFL as well. The last time that I remember the team played so well was when the Lions played in the same stadium as the Tigers. Coach Dan Campbell played for them three seasons of losses prior to and years before he started coaching. The preseason was playing third string players to see who they would keep and who they would not.

Unfortunately, I cannot watch the Lions play because they lose when I do. So, I follow the discussions on Facebook from my lifer friends who I have known since kindergarten who are watching the game.

So enjoy watching the NFL season this year! It should be exciting as always!! Go Lions!

Cheers,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Relaxation Evolved

Daily writing prompt
How do you relax?

Relaxation can come in many forms to relieve the stress from the day especially a job that one keeps to pay the bills but doesn’t necessarily feeds the soul.

During my lifetime, I have done physical activity such as high intensity workouts from Cathe. Cooking and baking have helped as well to divert stress. In addition, meditation and yoga. On the extreme, I obtained my MBA and Six Sigma Greenbelt to relieve stress from my life. Finally, driving nowhere and riding my bike have been throughout my life as a helper to relieve stress.

Relaxing or releasing of stress lately for me is done lately by traveling on airplanes. The planning for of the trip even helps me to relax. Been fortunate enough to fly three trips in the past few years. Used to be afraid of flying but I have recovered because I was able to work through it myself.

Finally, I find peace and relaxation from being on the water which has helped me through most of my life. All of my trips by flight have been near or reasonable distance to major bodies of water that calms my nerves and brings a sense of peace. The movement of the current of the water and listening to the ripples can bring peace. Finally, rain is helpful as well that puts me to sleep.

Talkin’ Like A Sailor

Daily writing prompt
If you had to give up one word that you use regularly, what would it be?

Growing up near major water masses of Lake Erie and Lake Michigan with many neighbors that work in the maritime such as Captains or crew on freighters plus the Coast Guard nearby, the term, “talking like a sailor” refers to the colorful language that is found on the watercraft of swearing.

Truthfully, to give up one “four letter word” that constitutes swearing, I would have to make a conscious effort to give them all up. Admittedly, sometimes I feel better when I say it making more difficult to do so than ask forgiveness for my language.

At work and other situations, instead of cussing or swearing in my head or whispering, I sometimes let my emotions show quietly with tears hidden from those around me instead of vocalizing my feelings. Fortunately, I can blame it on my allergies at the time.

Today, at work, I will make a conscious effort to keep my language clean in my thoughts and feelings. It won’t be easy. Of course, anything worthwhile never is.

Grudges No More

Daily writing prompt
Are you holding a grudge? About?

In my younger years, I held onto grudges against people and situations until I no longer had the energy or time to justify it. These grudges were against my employer of 22 years that let me go because of a new CEO and because of a cheating ex husband plus people who I thought were my friends.

As time went on, I learned that holding onto grudges only was hurting myself emotionally and physically. In turn, I have become more selective of who I trust.

Recently, someone who I thought that was my friend was playing games with me. For example, she crashed her ex husband’s Dad’s funeral then blamed it on me because my life is more fulfilling than hers. Plus, she pushed me to do my online closet and stop blogging. Also, to endlessly clean my house to be on her level. We’ve known each other for years became friends at work then she became my supervisor. She was chosen over me because of my good relationship with my CEO. Decided to end the relationship which I have lightened my mood.

Grudges/resentments are unhealthy. Forgive and move on. Life is worth living fully so let go of the things and people that stop you.

Yours Truly,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

The Last Family Trip

Daily writing prompt
Share a story about the furthest you’ve ever traveled from home.

The year before that I was to be married, my parents decided to plan the trip of all trips to Honolulu Hawaii over Christmas vacation in 1986. My brother was living in Houston while the rest of the family resided in Michigan.

Our trip began at DTW (Detroit Wayne) airport with a layover in Denver before our arrival in Hawaii which was roughly a 12 hour flight. We stayed at the Royal Hawaiian Sheraton on Waikiki Beach for the whole trip with a couple of rental cars. We basically stayed at the hotel with one trip to downtown Honolulu for the memorial, Tom Selleck’s home and some bay where one can swim with tropical fish.

Other than that, my family remained at the beach except for me because I had huge problems with the heat and being around family. My free spirit is something that irritates my siblings as much as it did my parents. Truthfully, I didn’t want to go on because of my then fear of flying and being around family all week. We were supposed to do things for my wedding while there that never happened. No surprise there.

Finally, I am grateful for the trip to have traveled to a beautiful place even though it tested my relationship with my family. Since then, I divorced in 1994 which my ex had married a few times after me. Plus, I have moved from MI to TX despite possible family lawyer trying to find a legal reason to stop me. It failed. Being different from my family has always caused problems which the trip made it more challenging to get along with everyone. Lately, my trips have been solo with no issues of flying.

Happy Travels!

Home Sweet Home

Daily writing prompt
What does your ideal home look like?

Today, my ideal home is not necessarily where it’s at, what it looks like inside or out, when it was built and why but who is inside of it.

Most of my life, I have had felines that were a part of it even when I was married years ago. Each one who was unique and beautiful. Truthfully, I prefer to be around them instead of humans a lot. The fur babies who I have been blessed with are Suesue (Sukiyaki), Adrian, Seville and Madrid, and now Bella and Luna. These are my “who.”

During my lifetime, my parents built new construction numerous homes which they lived in at various places with varying design and function. Later on, into my adulthood, I learned the reasons why. It was a blessing that my parents were able to do this but the reasons behind it weren’t so savory giving you the “why.”

”Home is where the Heart is” so may your home be filled with love and kindness. “Home Sweet Home.”

Yours Truly,

Leslie Elizabeth David.
