Experienced: Intuition

Daily writing prompt
Do you trust your instincts?

Your intuition will never guide you to the wrong place, it will never harm another person physically or emotionally, it will always be right.

To learn to trust it takes time because it will lead you out of your comfort zone from relationships to daily routine in life.

The inner voice is to protect you from harm emotionally and physically without taking away from others.

From relying on my intuition, I have learned to listen to it when every “intelligent” person gave their opinion and thoughts. My response was that it’s better for me to step back from the noise, go to a quiet place and listen to it. Each time, it was better than the advice that I have received.

So, if something or someone doesn’t feel, act, communicate right then it’s not. That’s your gut feeling to move along until you find someone or something that does.

Myself. Born premie with low life expectancy. Learning difficulties in my younger years. Teased and threatened most of my life. A true free spirit here. Trusting my intuition was and is my only survival skill that doesn’t involve bad mistakes and taking away from others.

Leslie Elizabeth David.

The Facade

Daily writing prompt
What’s the first impression you want to give people?

First impressions play an important role both personally and professionally that human beings will measure another up to afterwards. Facade refers to the exterior or of false impressions.

Professionally, the first impression one gives especially during the interview process is critical as we all know of being confident but not cocky and friendly but not becoming your best friend. Ironically, finding that middle ground is almost impossible plus has little to do with one’s capabilities and personality. Truthfully, the confident handshake and smile reminds me of politicians and used car salesmen.

Personally, I have heard the line of, “ you’re not the person who I thought you were when we first met,” of putting so much trust in the first impression of someone that it doesn’t give much room to be a human being who is imperfect and makes mistakes. My response normally of asking that person what his/her gut feeling was at the time which is often ignored.

Honestly, when I meet someone for the first time, I trust my instincts and the energy I feel around them as I hope that they will do the same thing for me. So, no matter how one acts, I can see who one for who they are without the flash and the glitter.

Glowing in Imperfection,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

The August Blessings

Daily writing prompt
What’s your favorite month of the year? Why?

Being born on the first day of winter, December 21, I thought that my month was the best being a kid. As I grew up, I found that my birthday and month to be quite stressful and difficult because of Christmas.

Growing up and into adulthood, I have always loved August. In Detroit, it meant that the automakers would be revealing their new lineup of vehicles for the following year and the start of football collegiate and professional.

In addition, the weather starts to cool down a bit so people would start “nesting” of getting ready for the colder months ahead of stocking up on food and clothing plus getting ready for school.

As December is just around the corner, I feel my blood pressure rising so I am window shopping at possible traveling opportunities for early August. Plus, other late summer time adventures to discover.

Yours Truly,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Thank You

Thank you to WordPress Support and you all for everything! Huge blow at my employer put me in a tailspin emotionally with dealing with finances and with my online closet. Plus, reality check on moving to CT in the future. I had difficulty logging on. Fortunately, they know who the producers are-for now. I missed you all.

Good to be Back,

The Long Island Sound

Daily writing prompt
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

After leaving Michigan to find work from losing my longtime employment nearing the end of my unemployment benefits and severance, I moved to Texas for a new life of work and of adventure.

Since I moved to Texas, I probably have visited more of the State than most of the lifetime residents here plus Oklahoma and Louisiana. To date, I’ve been to Austin, Houston, Palo Duro Canyon, The Hill Country including Fredericksburg and Luchenbach leaving pretty much the only place that I haven’t visited is San Antonio. Plus, I have been to Oklahoma City and surrounding areas plus Lake Charles in Louisiana. Most of my travels were done on the weekends when I wasn’t working.

With that being said, I have missed the water. The water such as the Great Lakes where my former home State of Michigan is surrounded by it and plenty of inland lakes in it. The water soothes my soul amidst the chaos of this world where I had a beach that was peaceful and quiet down the road from the action and the noise of a State park.

My next home will hopefully be on near the shores of the Long Island Sound in Connecticut. Years ago, I visited to resolve a situation but I found my beach amongst the chaos of the State being the bedroom region to NYC. The beach is quiet and peaceful plus it feeds my soul like the one in Michigan. It was an unexpected surprise when I stopped to visit a rare food truck on this beach away from the action of other places. It is a semi private area which the locals accepted me so I could stay.

To date, I have contacted a realtor and I have been “window shopping” looking at condos in my chosen area. Coincidentally or not, my previous blog is about the problems with my employment that has no bearing whatsoever on my work performance but of technology upgrades.

Yours Truly,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

I’m Done

My patience has run out. Learned from a coworker who was irritated with me because I was doing my job and forwarding him calls told me that he would be happy when our mutual employer installs an automated phone system to reduce the number of incoming calls. My immediate supervisor who tried backtracking the damage already done after I contacted him about it. My job is answering the phone, scanning documents and folding, metering and dropping the mail off at the post office.

Afterwards, another coworker put some outgoing mail in the wrong place which I missed taking to the post office. While there, I realized that I didn’t have the missing mail.

Truthfully, it hurts. I was taught that you arrive early and get the job done thoroughly, completely and correctly before you go home. My Dad was an osteopathic physician who believed that 40 hours a week was part time work as well as his Dad who was an engineer for Ford.

In a couple of years, I plan to move to Connecticut about 90 minutes north of NYC. I already have a buyer who wants to buy my home as investment property too. Maybe, this is a steps towards my goal. I don’t believe in coincidence or happen stance.

Thanks for allowing me to vent. I feel a bit better about it. My first thought afterwards was that, “I’m done.”

Self Confidence

Daily writing prompt
What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever found (and kept)?

Growing up being born premature with low life expectancy, I was always treated differently than others even from my parents and my siblings. During the years of my childhood into my teens, I was told that I was “ugly” and many other things from students and even some young professionals. Self confidence was almost non existent then.

The reason behind my premature birth is that my Mom learned that my Dad’s girlfriend was pregnant. She was a nurse where my Dad did rounds being a physician and where I was born. My Mom went into shock of learning the information thus went into labor for my birth.

As time went on, I realized that my parents essentially my Dad treated me differently than my siblings. My parents had low expectations of me and even love. They were more interested in controlling my life than supporting it. I had to fight what my sister and brothers got without asking. Self confidence was based upon their influence on me back then which I mistakenly believed.

Into adulthood, I found my love of writing which I did well in English class but not in mathematics or science. Undergrad classes were difficult not because they were super difficult but because I lacked self confidence.

Move forward to post divorce and to life of my own which I learned living on my own that I have value and I am worthy that resulted in my self confidence. During this period, I significantly dropped communication with my family especially my parents. They did everything to regain control from my past but I knew that I could live a fulfilling life without them. My move to Texas proved that I was confident in myself to succeed.

From my experience, I learned that self confidence is believed from within despite what others think and feel. I trusted my intuition to make it happen.

In closing, I hope you have the confidence to follow your dreams and to trust your intuition. Together, they can change your life beyond your imagination!

In Confidence,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Skip Work

Daily writing prompt
What part of your routine do you always try to skip if you can?

The routine that I always try to skip is work where I diligently use my earned time off as, “mental health days,” unless I am saving time to fly to the next place where I plan to call home.

In the meantime, I do my work diligently and well with little to no socializing unlike my coworkers. My work ethic is to show up early, focus on assigned tasks and do them well, and limit social interaction with others which I learned from my Dad who was a physician and my Grandfather who was an engineer at Ford. Unfortunately, neither one used their accumulated time off so their job was their life. Life is more than one’s job. My Dad did take early retirement though creating a beautiful garden of horticulture found in the geographical area.

As horrible as me, “skipping work,” may sound to some, I am reminding you that work is one part of one’s life. In Michigan, while working for a longtime employer of twenty plus years, I accumulated over a month of vacation days. At the end of my employment of twenty plus years, I had to use them before I could collect unemployment. Although, I did my job well and showed up early with a good attitude, my position ended. Learned later, they regretted that decision.

The 1976 US Men’s Downhill Ski Team

Daily writing prompt
Who is the most famous or infamous person you have ever met?

Many years ago after moving from the Detroit suburbs to northern Michigan, I joined the high school ski team but never competed back in 1976.

That same year, Cary Adgate from Boyne City Michigan actually made the US Ski Team for the Winter Games. He was placed not in the position to medal but made the reserves based on his pre-race time trials. He was on the first winter Olympian from Michigan to make it to the winter games for skiing although many others from the State made it for hockey. He later became a professional downhill skier and toured the world.

Before the games, he practiced and mentored some of the junior and senior class skiers for our school. It turns out that my coach was his personal trainer as well as his old high school coach before leaving for Colorado for final time trials.

In closing, I truthfully didn’t remember the days of downhill racing in high school because the following years, I became a cheerleader. Grateful and thankful for the memories of practicing with a world class athlete.

Thank you,

Leslie Elizabeth David.

Bella and Luna

Daily writing prompt
What is good about having a pet?

For most of my life, I have been a cat Mom that I value very much plus felines growing up. Above are Bella to the left and Luna to the right who I got through a coworker who found them. There’s many reasons why people who adopt animals, below are the reasons why I have felines then I share their story.

One of the biggest reasons why I have felines in my life is because they are a good judge of character. If they don’t like you, chances are, I won’t either. Another reason is that they’re intelligent creatures who get out of impossible situations without getting hurt. In addition, they are great hunters who can corner a critter wisely without causing a ruckus and who can devour it without a mess. Plus, once you earn a feline’s trust, you never want to lose it.

Bella and Luna who, I found out later that I am their fourth human when I got them. They were under weight and food deprived plus full of fleas. They were previously abused emotionally from neglect. At that time, I was told that they were kittens but after they gained weight and grew substantially in a short period of time of being with me, they both went into heat. This happened just after I spent a lot of money and time at the veterinarian who gave them shots and physicals. After this, it was time of earning their trust by leaving them alone and giving them love and affection when they wanted it. Roughly about 4-5 months for them to truly trust me and for them to realize that we’re staying together. Plus, they listen to stories about my cat babies before them of Seville, Madrid, Adrian and SueSue (S

Believe that cats aren’t for everyone especially specific breeds like Siamese or Burmese. Even Maine Coons can be finicky at times. Grateful and blessed for all of my fur babies who loved me just as much as I loved them.

Glistening in Fur,
