Who was your most influential teacher? Why?
During my youth, I have had lots of problems in cognitive skills being born premature. From eyesight to dental problems, I was given not much hope of making into adulthood and less of making to high school graduation.
Then, in third grade, Mrs. Jones came into the picture. She was aware of complications of children born early that lead me to getting glasses and then braces. Although, I didn’t like being singled out for being different, the changes were positive. Had speech therapy as well.
The odd turn, later in life,is that I excelled in writing and not the math. During my work life and graduate studies, I excelled with all courses that had to do with numbers.
Truthfully, I believe that if it wasn’t for Mrs. Jones is that I would have labeled and moved to a group home despite my Dad being a physician. My early birth is from my Dad confessing to my Mom about his bad decisions. I was his constant reminder. Cheers to Mrs. Jones!
