Outside of My Comfort Zone

What experiences in life helped you grow the most?

Most of my experiences if not all that helped me to grow the most were outside of my comfort zone. Since life is a new adventure every day, I’ll focus on a few.

Getting married and sharing my life with someone who constantly cheated and lived for himself was an experience of not listening to my intuition because I thought my heart knew better. From that, I trusted and acted on my gut feeling only. Learned that I’m better off on my own. Was outside of comfort from beginning to end.

After losing my employment after 21 years and feeling lost, it took awhile to feel grounded and what needed to be done. My healing time from this was worse and longer than my divorce. I ended up moving to Texas. Now, I plan to move back to Michigan since I lost my job here. Found my strength and ability to see things beyond what is visible.

Travel has given me many experiences that I grew independently and out of my comfort zone to places that I never been. My trips to Connecticut got me flying on an airplane and discovering new places. My most recent and most memorable was driving south on I-95 through Stamford early the morning driving to HPN (Westchester County AirPort). It was beautiful and peaceful with the colored lights and flags. Also, a young boy drowned in the Housatonic river that was horrible. I cried. I think that they stayed at the same hotel as me. The trip was an emotional roller coaster that made me feel vulnerable. Not kosher.

All three experiences were growth in trust, in the unknown and in my response to each one. Taking steps outside of my comfort zone presents opportunities for adventure and for feeling vulnerable at times. My heart goes out to the family still.

Yours Truly,

Leslie Elizabeth David.
