The routine that I always try to skip is work where I diligently use my earned time off as, “mental health days,” unless I am saving time to fly to the next place where I plan to call home.
In the meantime, I do my work diligently and well with little to no socializing unlike my coworkers. My work ethic is to show up early, focus on assigned tasks and do them well, and limit social interaction with others which I learned from my Dad who was a physician and my Grandfather who was an engineer at Ford. Unfortunately, neither one used their accumulated time off so their job was their life. Life is more than one’s job. My Dad did take early retirement though creating a beautiful garden of horticulture found in the geographical area.
As horrible as me, “skipping work,” may sound to some, I am reminding you that work is one part of one’s life. In Michigan, while working for a longtime employer of twenty plus years, I accumulated over a month of vacation days. At the end of my employment of twenty plus years, I had to use them before I could collect unemployment. Although, I did my job well and showed up early with a good attitude, my position ended. Learned later, they regretted that decision.
