Walmart Rampage

Daily writing prompt
Scour the news for an entirely uninteresting story. Consider how it connects to your life. Write about that.

In northern Michigan yesterday in a town called Traverse City along the coast of Lake Michigan, multiple stabbings took place at the local Walmart store where there’s only one.

Connected to this story because I lived in Traverse City for a year where I attended a junior college that is part of Michigan State University. The school is known for its Maritime Academy and flight training which I dated a former pilot. Plus, I am a Walmart shopper where I live now. It’s called Northwestern Michigan College with onsite dormitories and apartments for students.

The unusual thing is that Michigan has its own brand of supermarkets one is called Meijer which I truly miss and the other is Spartan. Shopped both when I lived there.

Truthfully, I hardly ever walk into a supermarket because I pick up my groceries in the parking lot of the store which I have been doing since Covid at a Walmart Neighborhood Market which are much smaller and more sane than its big brother of the superstores. I refer to it as “junior.”

The way to stay safe is to be aware of the people around you and to be alert of their mood and actions. Trust your intuition, it doesn’t lie.

It saddens me greatly that this happened as half of the victims are critical condition and the others are serious.

Traverse City is located about 255 northwest of Detroit although getting there requires driving along curvy and hilly State highways after getting off the freeway. The area is for the National Cherry Festival to celebrate the harvest with a parade, Queen, and lots of sampling of cherries in food and drinks.
