Staying in My Own Lane

Daily writing prompt
On what subject(s) are you an authority?

As much as staying in one’s own lane and knowing where you can pass another driver is critical for highway safety.

But, I am taking about workplace relationships which there’s usually an employee manual and/or company culture to pave the way. During my professional career, I believe that following the rules even when there aren’t on personal relationships that start in a workplace environment.

Truthfully, I did fall for a State employee who was auditing my employer who felt the same way as me but because of conflict of interest, we determined that it wasn’t meant to be unless one of us left the industry. It didn’t happen. We stayed in our lane although quite difficult at the time.

Fast forward to 2025. After I loss my job at my employer which he audited, we were in contact for awhile until it was clear that his job was more important at that time. I moved out of State where I thought that I had seen him yet his daughter neither confirmed or denied. My strange feeling was to write him and tell him about my future plans of moving long distance again plus shared about my past which I did shortly after posting this. Wished him love and happiness. Expecting no response so I’ll be staying in my lane. Wished him love and happiness.

My last employer had no culture or policies guiding relationships so they were double standards and conflict when they came about. For example, a supervisor who terminated an employee who was married with was another married employee in the relationship. The employee who refused to end the relationship got fired. Then, the married supervisor got close to a divorced subordinate but nothing happened.

Staying in my lane.
