Writing this from something that happened today at work and an event that happened years ago which I’m sure that some of you may be able to relate to.
Despite printing the mail, processing the mail plus answering the phones, I am expected to do the scanning of documents as well. I work non stop most days of doing the combination of the three tasks. Currently, the scanner needs to get replaced and was told that it would be replaced yesterday but never took place. Today, my supervisor was quiet to avoid confrontation regarding the equipment. He has four daughters, a wife and his mother in law all in his house which explains things. My coworkers are quite social during paid work time although I choose not to be. Next week, my supervisor will sweet talk the person who reviews the scans to explain why it’s not done. The toxic environment is reason to change things.
Years ago while working for a financial institution that the CEO was having a long time affair with the VP of business which led to some shady dealings which the State examiners were well aware of. Getting to the end of my career there, I was told that I was getting a week off of work which my vacation will be used to cover my time off. They were getting tired of me because I was keeping my personal life quiet. The week off occurred during the time of what was known as, “snowmageddon,” which shut down my city as well as others at least for one week. Unfortunately, my employer refused to close unlike all the other financial institutions putting my coworkers lives in danger. HR even called me to make sure that I wasn’t laughing about the timing of my unplanned time off which I was hysterically in private. Fortunately for myself, I was able to rest and to be safe until I began the long task of digging my car out of the snow and shoveling the driveway.
With your work experiences, I believe that you have stories and experiences to share with your adult children and grandchildren to teach them what is right and wrong in the business environment. Do you have anything to share?
Thank you for your time.
