Good Deeds

The Urban Dictionary describes good deeds as an act of kindness or helpfulness often done selflessly without expecting anything in return. So, my actions today helped me and my neighbors from getting flat tires. For the past few days, there’s been glass in the middle of the street and to the edge of it at the end of the block about four homes down. Truthfully, I was afraid of my neighbors and myself getting one or more flat tires so I walked down the block this afternoon with my broom and dustpan set out to clean the street. It took me about 10 minutes just to get all the small broken glass pieces into one area just to sweep them up. A few people waved at me or gave me the thumbs up. Went back later to find the house which also had glass that was cleaned up after i had left but I find some stray pieces which I swept to the curb. My selfishness was for me not to get a flat tire too. Far from perfect here.

From my own personal experience, I believe that acts done to benefit others are truly genuine only if the person isn’t in it for personal gain. My ex husband’s deeds were always because he expected something in return. My coworker found my felines two years ago when they were nine months old and have lived with three separate families prior to me, she was concerned that I wouldn’t come back to work after my trip back to my home State so was it a good deed or assurance that I would return to work? Either way, I’m grateful that they’re in my life.

As the saying goes, “no good deed goes unpunished,” so as we mature and gain wisdom, choose wisely on the act of unselfishness.

Thank you for your time here, you are appreciated.
